Nursery Before and After

So...as many of you know, we're having a baby!{#2} If you have ever had a child you know that with the first one, you work so hard to get everything ready and just right for the big arrival. I don't know about you, but not so much with baby #2.  Poor thing, I've been so busy chasing a two year old that I just have not prepared. {AT ALL}

So I would like to share with you some of the progress we have made within the past week. {Yes, I'm due in 3 weeks and we have just started.} As of right now, the nursery is actually home of The Pickled Poppy. As you can see in the shameful pics below. {YIKES}

That's what we started with. Everything was piled in the middle so that my husband could paint. So for the past week, I have been working in those conditions.{again YIKES} I am so excited to say that this has been the busiest week at The Pickled Poppy Shop!! I am swamped with orders{BIG smile} and I have not had the most organized working conditions. The good news is that the painting is finished and the room is semi organized again!!

I know...still no crib assembled!

My father-in-law gave me this beautiful antique wash stand that I plan to use as a changing table!

We obviously still have lots to do, but I feel a little better about the progress that has been made. I will keep you posted on our improvements and there will be several DIY crafties involved!

P.S. I just had to share this with you!

Stay Tuned!

Stain, Stain, Go AWAY!! DIY

You know what I hate? When your little one drops or spills something on a perfectly good shirt.{sometimes even brand new}

Today I have a precious little DIY project that's gonna take care of your stained shirt problem. No sewing skills needed!

Materials:
*stained shirt{shouldn't be too hard to find}
*fabric scraps large enough to cover stain
*iron
*scissors
*Heat-n-Bond (available @ fabric and craft stores)

First, carefully read the directions for your Heat-n-Bond.  Usually, you just iron it on to the back of your fabric. Do this BEFORE you cut your shapes.{trust me}

Then decide what cute little shapes you want to be on the shirt and cut them out of your fabric and peel off the paper backing. You can trace or draw it on the back if that makes you feel more comfortable.

Place your fabric cut outs over the stains and follow the directions for ironing it to the shirt.

Voila! You have not only saved a once useless shirt, but you have created something special for your little one.

This could be done on pretty much anything with a stain. I'm thinking about fixing a pillowcase. Feel free to add your ideas in the comments below and if you need help commenting click here.

I would love to see what you come up with!

Appreciate Your Teachers

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Many of you probably did not know that, but since I happen to be one I thought I would let you know!

Don't panic! You still have plenty of time to send your child's teacher a special little 'thank you' for all of their hard work and dedication to your child's education.

It doesn't take much! Even just a simple little note of appreciation goes a long way.

Here are a few ideas I found...

Teacher Necklace (apple)  Happy Thoughts for Teachers the social club collection ( LIST KEEPER )

 Dragonfly altered and decorated clipboard  Lemon Sugar Cuticle Cream  Twelve Ways You Made A Difference

Of course what teacher wouldn't want a little Poppy!{wink}

Easter @ Biltmore

I feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful home! Just kidding! However, we are blessed to live in the mountains of North Carolina.  Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from America's largest home....The Biltmore House!  If you have never had the opportunity to visit you are missing out.

I mean just look! Kind of makes you wanna pack it up and move to Asheville. The Easter celebration was great! There were crafts, music and food. Not to mention the crazy Easter egg hunt.

They just dumped totes and totes of eggs out onto the front lawn and the kids went crazy!

The gardens are amazing! I love how they took old suitcases and used them as flower pots. What a great idea! Now I'm on the hunt for one to put out on my porch!

XOXO

10 Things

So that we can get to know each other a little better, I thought I would share 10 things you may or may not know about me! These are in no certain order.

1.  I adore fresh flowers! I use them all over the house.

2.  I am horrified by frogs. I once spent over an hour in a campground bath house b/c there was one outside the door.{Seriously}

3.  Mason jars are a must! They serve so many purposes. I drink from them, decorate with them, use them for fresh flowers, etc.

4.  I'm addicted to chap stick. Just the plain old black label ChapStick.

5.  Magazines make me happy. Mostly just the pictures.

6.  I'm a firm believer that you should never leave the house without your earrings in. When I was in labor, I went back inside to get my earrings before we left for the hospital.{True story}

7.  It more than upsets me that two of my favorite Soaps are being canceled!{Grrrr}

9.  I sooo enjoy sneezing! It's such a rush.

10. I over use the word 'jazzy!' As in "that's so jazzy," or "ooh, that's jazz," or " jazz-uh-bell" if someone looks nice. I know it's ridiculous. Honestly, I can't believe that I haven't used it in a post. {Until now}

Now it's your turn! If you would like, share something in the comments below that others may not know about YOU!!

P.S. Check this out! Thanks Manda Jane!

Easter Eggin'

It's about that time!  Time to dye your Easter eggs that is.  I thought I would help you get creative this year with some cute and simple little ways to spruce up your eggs.

EGGS:  First of all, you're gonna need some eggs! Last year I found out that yes, you can dye brown eggs! As a matter of fact they are quite lovely.  They really soak up the color and make some unique dark colors. This year I believe we will use both white and brown eggs. I usually boil mine, but you can blow out your eggs if you want to use them year to year.

DYE:  You can either purchase dye or make it yourself.{which is what we plan to do} All you need to do is mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar and about 20 drops of food coloring in 1 cup of hot water.  It's that easy! Simply use more food coloring to intensify the color or leave the egg in longer.

Have no fear!  Don't be afraid to try something new.  What's the worst that can happen? {you end up with a seriously hideous egg}

I found a few ideas that I'm going to try out this year.  Just click the picture below to get the 'How To.'
