Oh Say Did You See My Festive Nail Art?

My sister had this idea to jazz up her nails for the 4th of July holiday. So over some delicious Chick-fil-a we discussed posting about it here.

I'm not gonna lie. It took for.ev.er. Notice that in the first pictures it's daylight and then all of a sudden it's dark. Yeah. It took that long. But I love the outcome and you could totally do it tonight while watching the Bachelorette.

You'll need red, white, and blue nail polish. This is not the best nail polish. In fact it was the cheapest, but who has 25 bucks to spend on jazzing up your nails for the 4th? You'll also need sticky strips for the stripes and a toothpick for the "stars."

Side note... when my sister was telling me about how she tried out this idea I asked, "How'd you do the stars?" She relplied, "With a fork." Really Ashely? With a fork? If you know my sister then this will come as no surprise to you.

I always start with a clear coat. Then paint all of your nails white except for your thumb. Paint it blue. It's really, really important to let each coat dry. You can hold your hands in cold water for about 3 minutes and it will help this process. Or a kiddie pool will do in a pinch.

When your nails are completely dry, add the sticky paper strips. My sister was meticulous at making sure everything was lining up. She even did the thumb stripes in the opposite direction so that when you put all of your fingers together in the end you will get a flag. Ha! Then paint on the red polish over top.

While that's drying you can add the stars. We did not use a fork. However, I did not have a toothpick so we used a skewer. You know, the sticks you use for kabobs. Whatevs.

When you are 100% sure that your nails are dry, peel off the stripes. Then add a clear top coat.

Cute huh?
By the time we finished hers. I was worn out. So we jazzed mine up with something a little more simple.

I'm linking up with Heather for Mani Monday. Pop on over and be inspired.
