Confession. I have not been "teaching" my child the things that I know she needs to know before Kindergarten. Honestly, I've been meaning to start for a while now, but I just can't seem to get it together. I feel a little lost and I don't know where to start. My mind just feels all crazy when I start thinking about it. I need a plan. I know. I should be ashamed of myself. I've been a teacher for the past 7 years and I feel very confident in teaching other children. Just not my own. That changed yesterday.
Yesterday we started "school" with a field trip to the library {and target}. I know. How fun is that? On the first day. We had a great time and found lots of books at the library and lots of supplies in the target dollar bins. After lunch we got started with a letter recognition and we even made a little weather station.
I'm actually pretty excited about it. I have a plan! I'm going to choose a theme for the week and try to get in at least 3 lessons/activities a week. Our first theme is snow! I'm thinking a little fiction, a little non-fiction, number recognition, letter recognition, art projects, and of course snacks. My girls love their snacks!

I'm also thinking about sharing our preschool journey here on the blog and I would love to know if you're interested in following along. Also, any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated!

GO GIRL!!!! This is actually one of my dreams! I've always wanted to start a small business or website that helps parents prepare their preschooler for Kindergarten. I'd like to consider myself a Kindergarten guru, even though I only technically taught it for 1.5 years. It is BY FAR my favorite age and favorite ciruculum to teach! I do enjoy my job right now but would love to eventually start something like this. Maybe when I become a mom. ;) You're awesome girl, and good luck! ps...your babies are beyond precious!
ReplyDeleteListen sister...I may be callin' you to help me out! I fancy myself as a 3rd grade guru. Pre-school, not so much. Thanks so much for your sweet comment!!:)
